Anthon M. Butts, 77, died at 3:50 p.m. at the home of his son, Earl Butts, Ottumwa route 5, where he had made his home for the past six years. Death followed a lingering illness. The son of John and Harriet Butts, he was born July 26, 1866, near Montezuma. Mr. Butts is survived by three sons, and a daughter, Orville Butts of Agency, Earl, Ottumwa; Hugh of Elkhart, Iowa and Mrs. Mildred Shaw of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, a brother W.H. Butts of Montezuma and a stepbrother, Joe Farmer, Montezuma. Short services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the son’s home on route 5, and 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Adella street and Finley avenue, B.F. Black assisted by Carl R. Nelson will be in charge. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Carlo, Audrey Brummitt, Cortie Rolison, Albert LaRue, Homer Smith and Robert Stevens. The body was to be taken to the Earl Butts home at 4 p.m. today from the Johnson’s funeral chapel.
