Miss Clara M. Engstrom, 33, who lived at 1011 West Main street, and had been assistant chief operator of the Northwester Bell Telephone Co. here, died at the Ottumwa hospital at 5 a.m. today. She had been ill but a short time. Miss Engstrom was the daughter of G.A. and Emma Engstrom and was born in Ottumwa December 28, 1909. She had made this city her home throughout her life. She was a graduate of Ottumwa high school with the class of 1926 and was a member of the First Lutheran church. An employee of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. here for the past 15 years, Miss Engstrom had served that firm as supervisor for several years and recently had been promoted to assistant chief operator. Surviving are her parents, five sisters; Mrs. Ethel Blomquist, Mrs. Mildred Winblade and Mrs. Nellie Swanson, all of Ottumwa; Betty Engstrom and Dorothy Engstrom, both at home; three brothers, all in the armed forces, Private First Class Ralph Engstrom, Camp Meeksil, North Carolina, Sergeant Carl Engstrom, who is now in England and Technician Jack Enstrom who is now in the south Pacific war theater. Her grandmother Mrs. G.P. Anderson of Ottumwa and two nephews also survive. The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel awaiting funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Miss Clara Engstrom, assistant chief telephone operator here who died at 5 a.m. Monday at the St. Joseph hospital, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday from the First Lutheran church. The Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen will have charge of the services and burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. The casket will be taken to the church from the Johnson funeral chapel at noon Thursday and will be closed at the beginning of the services. Pallbearers will be Harold Daniels, Joe Vance, E.W., Murphy, Marvin Metcalf, Lloyd Lawson and Frank McKinney.
