John Mountain Taken By Death
John W. Mountain 69, veteran Ottumwa ice cream and candy maker, died at 8:50 a.m. today at his home 509 Clinton avenue, following a period of ill health. The son of John R. and Hannah DeWire, Mountain was born in Ottumwa July 18, 1874. He lived here practically all of his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Ella; four sons, Cloyce W. Mountain, Moline, Illinois, Joseph L. Mountain, Rock Island, Illinois, Merrill E. Mountain Waterloo, and Yerrill W. Mountain, Ottumwa, three daughters; Mrs. Hilah Thomas, and Mrs. Zella Thiel both of Davenport, and Mrs. Devera Witt, Ottumwa; 28 grandchildren and a half-brother and half-sister living in Oregon. He was preceded in death by a great grandson. The body was removed to the Johnson funeral chapel pending arrangements.
Funeral services for John W. Mountain, 909 Clinton avenue, who died Wednesday, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Christ conducted by the Burley Black. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery the casket will be taken from the Johnson funeral chapel to the church at 1 p.m. Sunday. Pallbearers will be Albert LaRue, Robert Stevens, Homer Smith, Earl Butts, LeRoy Ruby and H.R. Skinner.
