Nicholas T. Holley, 70, died suddenly at 1 am. today at his home on Agency route 1. He was the son of Mrs. and Mrs. Isaac Holley and was born at Adair, Illinois, November 10, 1872. He had been a resident of Agency community for the past 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Nora; a son, Private Arbon Holley, stationed in North Ireland; a grandson, Kenneth Holley, Ottumwa; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Sowers, Cherokee, Kansas, and Mrs. Olive Ruth, Gerard, Kansas, and a brother Everett Holley, Gerard, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a daughter. The body was removed in the Johnson funeral chapel awaiting arrangements.
Nicholas Thornton Holley was born November 10, 1872, in McDonough county, Illinois, near the village of Adair. Here he grew to manhood. He was married on January 2, 1900, to Nora Dunsworth. In 1903 he came to Iowa. To them were born two children a daughter, who passed away in infancy, and a son, Abron, who is in service of his country. Mr. Holley had lived at Stockport, near Bloomfield and Ottumwa. For several years he had lived on his farm near Agency. He is survived by his wife, his son, a grandson Kenneth Lee, by two sisters, Mrs. Florence Sowers, Cherokee, Kansas; Mrs. Ollie Ruth, Girard, Kansas and a brother Everette, of Girard, Kansas. Mr. Holley was a good man, a good citizen and a friend and father. He was always interested in helping others and no one would go further than he to befriend another. He passed away on Monday June 14, at the age of 70 years, six months and four days.
Funeral services for Nicholas F. Holley, who died suddenly at 1 a.m. Monday at his home on Agency route 1, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. George E. Purdy of Des Moines will be in charge and burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery.
