Ottumwan For 40 Years Dies
Mrs. Belle Erskine Lewis, 71, of 1621 West Main street, died at 4 a.m. today at 820 Pershing avenue. She had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 40 years. She was the daughter of John and Maria Baker and was born in Nebraska May 20, 1871.She was a member of the West End Presbyterian church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mae Richards, Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Emma Baynard and Mrs. Mary Horton, both of Ottumwa; two sons, J.L. Erskine, Berkley, California, and Edwin Erskine, Los Angeles, California, 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; five brothers Ed Baker and Charles Baker, both of Percy, John Baker, Newton and James and Willis Baker, both of Monroe and a sister Mrs. Emma DeMoss.
Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Erskine Lewis of 1621 West Main street, died Wednesday at the Rest Haven nursing home 820 Pershing avenue, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lloyd C. Snyder of the West End Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. Pallbearers will be Howard Erskine, Albert Davis, Ray Sears, Jim Simpson, Eberly Baker and Albert Baker.
