George Burnett, 74, died at 10 a.m. today at his home 1035 East McPherson avenue. He was a retired employee of the Ottumwa Box Car Loader Co. and was born January 3, 1869, in Fairfield, the son of Samuel and Emma Sanders Burnett. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine A. Burnett, a nephew, George Burnett Cherry of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and a niece, Helen Cherry, Cumberland, Maryland. He had been employed by the Box Car Loader Co. from July 1900 until his recent retirement. He was a member of the Methodist church and of Empire lodge No. 269, A.F. & A.M. The body will remain at the Lester Jay funeral home until arrangements are completed.
