Lee H. Baker Dies; Lifelong Ottumwan

Lee H. Baker, manager and treasurer of the Hardscog Wonder Drill Co. and prominent in church and lodge work in Ottumwa, died at 9 a.m. today at the Ottumwa hospital after an illness of a month. He was 48 years old and was born March 1, 1895, in Ottumwa the son of J.B. and Emma Baker. He was a member of the First Christian church and served as a deacon of the church. He belonged to Ottumwa lodge No. 16, A.F. & A. M. and was “dad” to Ottumwa assembly No. 31., Order of Rainbow Girls. He was also a member of Chamber of Commerce and of Ottumwa lodge No. 347 B.P.O. Elks. He is survived by his Mrs. Florence Baker; one daughter, Marjory Baker, at home and his mother, Mrs. Emma K, Baker of Ottumwa. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Sontag, Mrs. Earl Robinson, Mrs. W. P. Howerton and Charles H. Baker, all of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his father who died in 1939. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday from the First Christian, in charge of the Rev. Harold Roberts. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. The casket will remain at the Johnson funeral home until noon on Thursday, when it will be taken to the church and closed at the beginning of the services.
