Veteran Grocer Is Dead At Age Of 87

William A. Rector, 87, pioneer groceryman, died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. S. McCrory, 917 Queen Avenue. His home was at 900 Albia road. He was the son of John and Sarah Rector and was born at Chillicothe February 8, 1856. He had operated grocery businesses at Foster, Albia, Bidwell and Ottumwa. Besides Mrs. McCrory, he is survived by a daughter Miss Pearl B. Rector of Detroit, Michigan; a son W.L. Rector Blakesburg route 2, three grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Alice Wells, Blackwater, Missouri and a half-sister, Mrs. Lona Stark, Powersville, Missouri. His wife, Cordelia, preceded him in death in 1933. The body was removed to the Johnson funeral chapel pending arrangements.
