Fred Jones, Farmer and Contractor, Dies
Fred Jones, 79, life-long resident of Wapello county and a former contractor, died at 9:40 a.m. today at Ottumwa hospital. His home was on Ottumwa route 2. He was the son of David and Elizabeth Jones and was born in this county August 18, 1863. Survivors include four sons, Elmer, Russell and Dean all of Ottumwa route 2, and Harry, Ottumwa route 4, two daughters; Mrs. A.D. Daniel and Mrs. Charles Weeks, both of Ottumwa; 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ann Canfield. Blakesburg route 1. He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie, March 27, 1940, and a son, Merle in 1917.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:20 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. E. K. Parrott of Douds. Burial will be in Brooks cemetery.
