Jake Hahn, Veteran City Salesman, Dies
Jacob W. Hahn, a member of the John Morrell & Co. sales force since 1900, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday at his home 110 East Woodland avenue. In point of service, he was one of the oldest men in the Morrell sales department and throughout almost his entire 34 years of selling John Morrell & Co. products he served in one territory only, the city of Ottumwa. He went to work at Morrell's on May 17, 1900 and after a brief time in the general offices here, he was assigned in the local city territory which he covered daily until his recent illness forced him to give it up. He was born July 4, 1880, in Ottumwa, and spent his entire life here. He was the son of John and Lydia Hahn and he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Hahn, and two daughters, Mrs. W.P. Show of San Francisco and Mrs. Edwin A. Merrill of Jackson, Michigan and his father, John Hahn of Franklin, Iowa. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters; Mrs. Earl Townsend, Ottumwa; Mrs. Howard Baker and Mrs. Roy Parkorney, both of Chicago and William Hahn of Des Moines. Mr. Hahn was a member of the First Presbyterian church, Empire lodge No. 269, A.F. & A.M. Ottumwa chapter No. 112, Order of the Easter Star, and B.P.O.E. No 347. Always interested in music, he was a member of the old Wapello Chief band which was organized in 1899 and which was the forerunner of the present Ottumwa municipal band. The body is at the Lester Jay funeral home pending the completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Jacob. W. Hahn, veteran salesman for the John Morrell & Co. who died Friday afternoon at his home here, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Lester Jay funeral home. The Rev. Richard Paul Graebel, D.D. pastor of the First Presbyterian church , will be in charge of the services and interment will be in Ottumwa cemetery. The pallbearers will be; Active, Fred Moore, Otto Saul, Otho Amelang John Fuhs, Dr. Elroy White and Don Teal, honorary Harry W. Davis, John Huston, G.M. Oehler, J.E. Hinsey, R.D. Rodgers, and Rowe Hinsey.
