Crane Operator Dies On Airport Job
Carl T. Fieseler, a crane operator for the Sollett-White-Lancaster Corp, builders of the Ottumwa Naval air base, died suddenly at 5 p.m. Sunday while at work on the Navy project at Rutledge. Fieseler had complained to fellow workmen earlier in the day that he was not feeling well and at 5 o'clock came down from his crane when he suffered a stroke of apoplexy and died almost instantly. He was 44 years old and was born September 2, 1898 in Carrol, the son of Henry and Anna Fieseler. He had lived in Ottumwa for the past four months with the family home established at Camp Joy. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Amanda Fieseler, and by four children. Mrs. Myron Nolte of Farmersville, Iowa, Mrs. Charlotte Kriens of Los Angeles, Murton Fieseler of the United States Navy and Gerald Eugene Fieseler at home. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Maxie Karsch of Burlington, and six brothers, William Fieseler, Joe Fieseler, Roy Fieseler, all of Ruthven, Iowa, Ben Fieseler of Spencer, Eddie Fieseler of Los Angeles, and Jess Fieseler of Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Two grandchildren, Margorie Kriens and Richard Kriens, also survive. The body was taken from the Trual funeral chapel to the M.O. Wells residence at Camp Joy pending the completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Carl T. Fieseler, crane operator at the Naval air base project here who died at 5 p.m. Sunday will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Milton Wells residence at Camp Joy. the Rev. Herbert A. Keck, D.D. pastor of the First Methodist church will be in charge. Services will then he held at 2 p.m. from the First Methodist church in Bloomfield and burial will be made in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Bloomfield. The pallbearers will be Paul Strothers, Dale Saunders, Jim Dick, Phil Bohanan, Torrence Mills and Milton Wells. One surviving son incorrectly listed in the original notice is Gerald Eugene Lumsford of the United States Navy.
