30-Year Railroad Veteran Succumbs
Jackson Howard Baker, 54 years old and a resident of Ottumwa for the past 35 years, died at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at his home, 817 West street. He was the son of Averson and Bessie Baker and was born at Brainerd, Minnesota. He had been a switchman for the Burlington railroad here for the past 30 years until last April when he retired on account of ill health. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen lodge No. 12, a member of the Christian church and the following Masonic bodies; Empire lodge No. 268 A.F. & A.M. Clinton chapter No. 9, Royal Arch Masons, Ottumwa Council No. 32, R. & S.M. and Malta Commandery No. 31 Knights Templar. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Baker, one stepson Carol Jean Roberts; one brother, Harry E. Baker, of Detroit.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. Harold Roberts, pastor of the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Active pallbearers have been selected from workmen and Masonic members will serve as honorary pallbearers. Masonic services will be held at the chapel.
