Harry Riseman, Merchant Is Dead
Harry Riseman, well-known Ottumwa resident merchant and downtown property owner, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ottumwa hospital after a brief illness. He had lived in Ottumwa for the past 25 years and during this time had been active in the retail business. For the past several years he had operated an apparel store known as Riseman's at 232 East Main street. He was born, July 12, 1888 in Russia, the son of Joseph and Tema Riseman and came to this country when he was four years old. The surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Riseman, 222 North Market street; two children, Melvin Riseman, of Ottumwa, and Adelle Riseman at home. His father Joseph Riseman, Omaha; two brothers and three sisters, Charles Riseman and Sam Riseman, Mrs. Karl Sessel, Mrs. Dave Riseman and Mrs. Harry Ferer, all of Omaha. He was a member of Ottumwa lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M. and of B'nai B'rith. Funeral services were held this morning from the Lester Jay funeral home in charge of Rabbi Jacob Richman. Burial was in the Jewish cemetery.
