Edward Burke, 88, a former Ottumwan , died at 3 a.m. today at the home in Quincy, Illinois. He was the son of the late Dennis and Katherine Burke of New London. Surviving are two sons, William of Ottumwa and John of Burlington, and two daughters, Mrs. Lizzie King of Colchester, Illinois, and Mrs. Julia Brophy of Des Moines. His wife and six children preceded him in death. The body was to arrive in Ottumwa today, to be taken to the Traul funeral chapel pending arrangements for funeral services and burial. Funeral services for Edward Burke, 88, who died Wednesday at his home in Quincy, Illinois, will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Traul funeral chapel and at 9 a.m. at the Sacred Heart church, with the Rev. J.H. Courtney celebrating a requiem mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. He was born in New London in 1854, later moving to McComb, Illinois. He was married December 28, 1875, to Mary McGan. Survivors include two sons, William Burke, of Ottumwa and John Burke Burlington, and two daughters, Mrs. Lizzie King, Colchester, Illinois, and Mrs. Julia Brophy, Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his wife and six children. Pallbearers all grandsons will be Glenn, Burke, Joe Burke, John Burke, Jack Brophy, Joe Whalin, and Edward Irvin. Members of Sacred Heart parish will meet at the Traul chapel at 8 p.m. today to recite the rosary.
