Ross Rees, Veteran Merchant Is Dead
Operated Pee Wee Grocery on McLean Street
Ross Rees, 75, veteran Ottumwa merchant and salesman was found dead in his bed at his home, 814 North Fifth street, early Wednesday morning. Born June 9, 1866, at Adams Station, Indiana he came to Ottumwa at an early age. He was with the International Harvester Co. later with the Dayton Spice Mills co. and also was a salesman for the Lagomarinco-Grupe Co. for many years. He entered business for himself, conducted a confectionary store and later a hardware business in the west end. Since 1934 he had run the Pee Wee grocery on East McLean street. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and a sister. Surviving are two daughters, Esther Rugg at home, and Mrs. Paula Good of Lanark, Illinois, a son, Carroll D. Rees of Ottumwa, a grandson Tony Rugg and several nephews and nieces. The body is at the Lester Jay funeral home pending the completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Ross Rees, above, who died Wednesday morning will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the Lester Jay funeral home. The Rev. Herbert A. Keck, D.D. will be in charge. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery. Mr. Rees was a veteran salesman and merchant here, operated the Pee Wee grocery on McLean street at the time of his sudden death.
