Retired Railway Veteran Is Dead
William Woodrow, 74, retired Milwaukee railroad employee of 325 North McPherson street, died at the Ottumwa hospital today at 4:30 a.m. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Jane Woodrow and was born at Akron N.Y. April 18, 1865. He had lived in Ottumwa for the last 35 years. Mr. Woodrow had been an employee of the Milwaukee railroad for 50 years at the time of his retirement in 1937. He began service as a fireman in 1887, being promoted to engineer five years later. His service began at Montevideo, Minnesota. He transferred to the Kansas City division here in 1902. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers No. 538 and served as chaplain for many years. He was also a life member of Sunset lodge No. 100, A.F.& A.M. Montevideo, Minnesota of Clinton chapter No. 9 R.A.M. Ottumwa and Hafed Grotto. He also was a member of the First Christian church. Surviving are his wife, Olive; daughter, Mrs. Margaret Swenson of Ottumwa; sons Arthur of Beloit, Wisconsin, William J., Marion D. and Jack H. of Ottumwa. Services for William Woodrow, 74-year-old retired railroader who died Tuesday at Ottumwa hospital will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Johnson's funeral chapel conducted by the Rev. Harold Roberts of the First Christian church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery with the Masonic services at the grave. Pallbearers will be Clyde Dornsife, C.E. Leonard, A.L. Towns, H.H. Rasmus, J.E. Palmer, H.C. Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be F.J. McNamara, J.C. Lucas, Irvin Cottrell, R.C. Runzler, William Fry and F.E. Orvis
