Ed Hagerty, 50-Year Rail Veteran, Dies
Rites Tuesday For Retired Conductor
Edward O. Hagerty, 64, retired Milwaukee railroad conductor, died at his home, 905 West Second street, Sunday at 12:15 a.m. Mr. Hagerty began his rail work in 1890, completing 50 years with the Milwaukee railroad in February, 1940. He had lived in Ottumwa 40 years. He was born in Wilton Junction July 22, 1875, the son of Charles and Annie Hagerty. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. No. 347; Order of Railway Conductors and the Holy Name society of St. Mary's Catholic church. Surviving are his wife Sarah; daughter, Mrs. A. Hollis Horrabin of Ottumwa; a brother Clifford Hagerty of Davenport. Services will be Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the home and at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's church, conducted by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. Burial will be in the Calvary cemetery. The rosary will be recited at the home today at 8 p.m. by the Holy Name Society. Active pallbearers will be Fred J. Celania, Joseph Celania, Charles A. Celania, Thomas P. Coughlin, James H. Burns and Lester Bradford. Honorary pallbearers will be J.N. Brown, David G. Higbee, L.H. Rabun, Harry E. Cross, Edward J. Klahn, John D. Green, D.S. Morrow, Perry T. Grubbs and Paul Mullen of Savanna, Illinois.
