Retired Railroad Special Agent Dies
Joseph Bauer, 77, Succumbs Friday
Joseph Bauer, 77, veteran retired Milwaukee railroad special agent, died at his home 609 East Main Street, Friday at 9 p.m. Mr. Bauer, a lifetime resident of Ottumwa, was born here July 23, 1863. He began work with the Milwaukee railroad as a special agent in 1894, retiring in December, 1934, after 40 years of service. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Cecelia Bauer of Des Moines. Mrs. George Stodghill of Denver. He was preceded in death by his sister Philomena Bauer in 1938. Mr. Bauer was a fourth degree member of General Shields council No. 888, Knights of Columbus. Services will be held in the Bauer home, 609 East Main street, Monday at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic church. Requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. J.H. Courtney, pastor. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of Knights of Columbus council will meet Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Bauer home to recite the rosary. The body will be taken from the Vaughan funeral chapel to the home today at 7 p.m.
