Lifelong Resident Of County Is Dead
Rites Friday For W. W. Spurgeon
William W. Spurgeon, 71, a lifelong resident of Richland Township, died at the St. Joseph hospital at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. He had been in failing health for the past year. A bachelor, he had lived with his mother on the farm home on Ottumwa route 5, near Tindall school for his entire life. HIs mother died February 19, 1941. Surviving are two brothers, Jesse of Des Moines and Julian C. of Mt. Pleasant, and three nieces, Mrs. Roy Harter, Ottumwa, Mrs. Joseph E. Swailer, Chicago and Mrs. Joseph W. Clark, Ottumwa. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Community Funeral service chapel with the Rev. Herbert Allen Keck, D.D. in charge. The music will be in charge of Jesse J. Miller. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arthur Rubel, Arthur McElroy, Abraham Van Ringlestein, Harry Brown, William Bohlman and Harold Picken.
