Axel F. Johnson Dies At Age of 72
Axel F. Johnson, 72, died at his home 1214 East Fourth street, at 5 a.m. today, after and illness of several months. He was born in Boxholm, Ostergotland, Sweden , September 7, 1869. He came to Ottumwa from Sweden June 1, 1891. Mr. Johnson married Nellie Johnson in Ottumwa August 6, 1892. He was employed at the John Morrell home for 37 years, until he retired March 1, 1940. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Axel Ask and Mrs. George Dawson of Ottumwa and Mrs. Paul Erickson of Macon, Missouri, a son Russell of Ottumwa, seven grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Ida Flemming in Boxholm, Sweden and a brother Thury of Finspong, Sweden. A daughter Ellen, and a son Fred preceded him in death., He was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Carroll Reece funeral home, with the Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen in charge. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery.
