Mrs. Melissa Gilroy 75, died at the home of her daughter; Mrs. Maude Richards, 1202 Hayne street, Wednesday at 5:50 p.m. She was the daughter of Charles and Nancy Root, born at Melrose, October 28, 1865. She had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 38 years. Surviving are two sons, John and Charles Gilroy, both of Ottumwa, two daughters, Mrs. Maude Richards of Ottumwa and Mrs. Visa McNabb, Cedar Rapids; three sisters; Mrs. Clara Springer, Ottumwa. Mrs. Pink Arnold Chicago, and Mrs. Harriett Nelson, Austin Minnesota; two brothers, Wesley Root, Kansas City, Kansas and William Root, Ottumwa, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren. Her husband Peter, and two sons and two daughters preceded her in death. The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel. Funeral services for Mrs. Melissa Gilroy, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maude Richards 1202 Hayne street, will be held Saturday at the residence at 3:30 p.m. the Rev. A.D. McClure will be in charge. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The casket will be taken to the residence this afternoon from the Johnson funeral chapel.
