Mrs. E.E. McElroy Dies In Oklahoma
Widow Of Pioneer Ottumwan; Burial Here
Mrs. Elizabeth A. McElroy, 88, widow of E.E. McElroy prominent attorney in Ottumwa before his death in 1905, died Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edna M. LeCompt of Oklahoma City Oklahoma. Mrs. McElroy was born near Greenfield, Ohio, in 1852 and was married to E.E. McElroy on September 30, 1884. E.E. McElroy came to Ottumwa in 1873 and began the practice of law. He was a member of the school board for 21 years and served as its president for 19 years. In addition, to being the first board member representing the south side. It was during the years of his administration that the old Agassiz and Irving schools were built. Surviving Mrs. McElroy are daughter, Mrs. LeCompt, with whom she made her home for the last 25 years; a granddaughter, Mrs. Paul Kiger of Alexandria, Minnesota and the following step-children. Walter H. McElroy and Ralph T. McElroy of Ottumwa, Evelyn McElroy of Amarillo, Texas, Carle E. McElroy of Seattle, Washington and Clifford T. McElroy of Englewood, California; two brothers, John F. Milner of Ava, Missouri and Joseph Milner, Des Moines; one sister Mrs. Joseph M. McElroy, route 6, Ottumwa.
Mrs. McElroy was a member of the Presbyterian church of Oklahoma City. The body will arrive in Ottumwa at 3:15 p.m. Friday and will be removed to the Lester Jay funeral home where short funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery.
