In Business Here 40 Years; Suffered Heart Ailment Week Ago.
Frank Niemeyer, 63 year-old veteran of Ottumwa business, died today at 1 a.m. in his home, East Alta Vista avenue, from a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Niemeyer, head of Niemeyer Bros. wholesale paper and box manufacturing firm, 222 South Market street, had been confined to his home since February 10 with a heart ailment. He had improved and had planned to resume work next Monday. For 40 years Mr. Niemeyer had been in the wholesale paper business here, with this brother Linus, the present firm shortly after the turn of the century.
Active In Church Work
He had been active in the work of the Catholic church for most of his life having served on the board of trustees of St. Mary's Catholic church for the last six years and had been a member of the athletic board of Catholic Central high school. Mr. Niemeyer was born in Lake Forest, Illinois, January 21, 1878 the son of Linus and Catherine Niemeyer. He was married June 30, 1917 to Miss Grace Coughlan of Ottumwa. The Ottumwan was a member of the Elks lodge, General Shields council No. 888, Knights of Columbus the Holy Name society of St. Mary's Catholic church, Chamber of Commerce and the Ottumwa County club.
Surviving are his wife; nephews, Linus C. Niemeyer of Ottumwa, Frank, Edward, George and John Niemeyer of Lake Forest; brother John Niemeyer of Lake Forest and sister, Miss Helen Niemeyer of Lake Forest. His brother Linus died six years ago.
Rites Monday
Solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's church Monday at 9 a.m. by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. pastor. Services also will be held at the home at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Member of General Shields council No. 888 Knights of Columbus, will meet in the lodge home Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to go in a body to the Niemeyer home to recite the rosary at 8 p.m.
