Funeral Services for 31-year-old Darrell Roquette, Ottumwa victim of Wapello county's first fatal auto accident of 1941, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hedrick Christian church. The Rev. Harold Roberts, pastor of First Christian church of Ottumwa will conduct services, assisted by the Rev. Hugh Guy, pastor of Hedrick church. Burial will be in Abel cemetery. Roquette was fatally injured early Sunday night on the overhead bridge, north of the airport, and died at St. Joseph hospital at 1:25 a.m. Monday. His car had stalled and he was pushing it when a car driven by Joe Davidson of Sigourney ran into the rear of the Roquette machine, crushing the young Ottumwan between the two.
Second In Family
The Sunday night accident was the second time in recent years that auto tragedies have struck at the Roquette family. Darrell's sister, Dian was killed in a motor mishap four years ago. Darrell Eugene Roquette was the son of Minnie and Flem Roquette. His mother and one sister, Doris both of Ottumwa survive. Roquette was a painter and interior decorator. The body was removed to the Lester Jay funeral home, pending the completion of funeral arrangements.
