Phillip M. Starkey Dies; Rail Veteran
Entered Employ Of Milwaukee 46 Years Ago
Phillip Moak Starkey, 86, retired Milwaukee railroader, died at his home, 441 South Ransom street, today at 11:30. He was the son of William and Mary Starkey and was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, November 6, 1854. He had been an Ottumwa resident most of his life. He was married to Miss Ada Coon June 20, 1880 at Eddyville. Mr. Starkey began his railroad work with the Rock Island railroad at Eddyville shifting to the Milwaukee railroad at Ottumwa 46 years ago. Eight years ago he retired because of ill health after 38 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Ada; daughter Mrs. Carl Ketcham of Ottumwa; son H.W. Starkey of Rock Island, and grandson Max Ketcham of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by a son, George. Private funeral series will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Johnson's funeral chapel conducted by the Rev. J.B. Johnson. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. The family requests no flowers.
