Farmer Is Victim Of Sled Mishap
Fred J. Nelson 60, died Thursday at his home on Ottumwa route 2, six miles southwest of Ottumwa, as a result of a bobsled mishap. Coroner Gordon Traul declared the death due to an unavoidable accident. There will be and inquest. Mr. Nelson had gone on the sled to get some fodder about 3:15 p.m. Mrs. Nelson went out of the house at 4 p.m. and noticed the team and sled standing by the barn. The body was found dangling on the side of the sled, head down. He was born in Sweden October 24, 1880, the son of J.M. and Christine Nelson. He came to the United States when he was six months old. Most of his life had been spent in Wapello county, the last 33 years on the same farm. He was a member of the First Lutheran church. Surviving are his wife Selma; children, Marvin, Marie and Lawrence all at home, and sisters Mrs. Joseph Larson and Mrs. Fred Goff of Ottumwa. Short services will be held at the home Sunday at 3 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. in the First Lutheran church, conducted by the Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen, pastor. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. the casket will be taken to the home from the Johnson funeral chapel Saturday at 5 p.m.
