Jesse Benton Skinner was born January 18, 1843 near Bonaparte in Van Buren County, Iowa. At the age of 20 years he enlisted in the Union Army and was a recruit of Co. E., 26th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. At the close of the war he returned to Iowa and located in Wapello County where on January 25, 1865, he was married to Miss Sarah Ann Kitchan. He sold his farm near Ottumwa and came to this city in 1901.
His death occurred Monday, August 31, 1914, and funeral services were held Wednesday, September 2, at 2 o’clock with burial in the Schaul Cemetery. His wife, five sons and one daughter survive. The children are Charles Skinner of Bloomfield, Edwin Skinner of Chicago Heights, Ill., Frank, Jesse N. Harry and Mrs. Millie Rine all of Wapello County.
