Former Ottumwa Police Chief Dies
M.F. Meany, 59, A Veteran Railroader
Michael F. Meany, 59 of 917 Sheffield street, died at 6:35 a.m. today at the St. Joseph hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Des Moines June 19, 1881. He was a switchman for the Milwaukee railroad in Ottumwa and Rock Island, Illinois for a number of years, and served as Ottumwa chief of police from 1917 to 1919. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Patrick Savage, Mrs. Lee Bremhorst and Mrs. John Huston all of Ottumwa, and a brother, Bernard A. Meany of San Diego California. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Traul funeral chapel and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh, V.F. celebrating requiem high mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, the relatives request no flowers sent. Services for Michel F. Meany former Ottumwa chief of police who died Tuesday at St. Joseph hospital will be held in the Traul funeral chapel Thursday at 8:30 a.m. and at St. Mary's Catholic church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Gallagher, Bernard J. Huston, Francis P Savage, Edward Wilson, George Mier and James Davis. Members of St. Mary's parish will meet in Traul funeral chapel tonight at 8 O'clock to recite the rosary.
