Mazie A. Meyer, 94, of Clarence died May 7, 1997, at Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center in Monticello. She was born Oct. 24, 1902, in Martinsburg to Ezra Gullett and Lydia Dawson. She married L.W. "Lud" Meyer Feb. 7, 1936 in Des Moines. She graduated from Martinsburg High School and State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught English in Standwood for several years and was a member of St. John's U.C.C. in Clarence. She was a past matron and 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star, former member of Republican Women's Committee, Cancer Society, Standwood Library Board and Stanwood Women's Club. She is survived by her husband; and a sister, Sylvia Axmear of Sigourney. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elden and Walden Gullett; and a sister, Golda Day. The service will be 1 p.m. today at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, the Rev. Rodrey Slessor officiating. Cremation will be after the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.
