Shirley R. Schwartz, 72, of Ottumwa died at 10:30 a.m. May 8, 1997, at her home. She was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Keosauqua to Wallace J. and Margaret Cameron Kritzman. She married Kermit L. Schwartz March 9, 1947. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and Iowa Wesleyan College. She was the assistant to teh pastor at the First United Methodist Chruch for 23 years, retiring in 1982, and was the co-founder of the Ecumenical Lord's Cupobaord. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Chapter G of P.E.O. and Alpha Xi Delta Alumnus. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Kristine Knouf of Worthington, Ohio, and Barbara Owens of Webster, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Margaret Kritzman. The service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. James Louk of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick. Visitation is open after 10 a.m. Sunday with family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and the Ecumenical Lord's Cupboard.
