Phyllis Joan Blain, 63, a resident of Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Stephen C. Page officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m., with a prayer service conducted at 7 p.m. followed by Rosary recitation at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D., or to the Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center or to Mass stipends.
Mrs. Blain was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Fairfield, the daughter of Vincent Thomas and Catherine L. Shaffer Menke. She married Donald Fred Blain Sept. 2, 1972, in Fairfield. He died Feb. 11, 1986.
She lived most of her life in the Fairfield community. She attended Buchanan No. 4 school, graduated from Fairfield High School in 1954, attended Ottumwa Heights College for one year and Parsons College for one year. She worked as a secretary at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield for four years.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield and Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Blain of Arcadia, Calif.; one son, Mark Blain of Sioux City; two stepsons, Joe Blain of Fairfield and Jerry Blain of Newton; two sisters, Rosemary Liegler of West Covina, Calif., and Maxine Bushong of LaMesa, Calif.; and one brother, Delbert Menke of Davenport.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
