G. Paul Kesselring

G. Paul Kesselring, 89, of Ottumwa died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2000, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Bladensburg Christian Church with the Rev. Oliver Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, with family visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Bladensburg Christian Church or Disciples Amateur Radio Fellowship.

Mr. Kesselring was born Dec. 30, 1910, in Jefferson County, the son of Frank and Edith Brown Kesselring. He married Helen Sheets March 25, 1938, in rural Batavia.

He was raised in the Batavia area, graduating from Batavia High School in 1929. He and his wife farmed in the Bladensburg area their entire lives. Following their retirement, they moved to Ottumwa in 1977.

He had restored and displayed old gasoline engines at Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant. He also wrote articles for gasoline engines magazines.

He was a member of Bladensburg Christian Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, chruch elder and former president of the church board. He was a member of Disciples Amateur Radio Fellowship, an organization that provides communication equipment for humanitarian and mission work; 4-H leadership activites; Olive Branch Masonic Lodge No. 21 AF & AM of Agency; Wapello County Mutal Insurance Board; Wapello County Extension Council; Wapello County Conservation Board; Rural Zoning Board; Wapello County Historical Society; state and Wapello County genealogical societies; and formerly secretary for Cardinal School Board of Education.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Marian "Becky" Peters of Batavia; one son, Glen Kesselring of Ottumwa; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
