Belle Young was born March 16, 1857 in Galesburg, Illinois and when a child moved to Rochelle, Illinois where she attended the public schools, after which she taught in both Illinois and Eddyville. On December 8, 1856 she was married to F W Fais of Eddyville, Iowa in Rochelle, Illinois and then came to Eddyville to make her home. She united with the Congregational church and took an active part in its various organizations. She was a charter member of the O E S Chapter No 99 retained her membership here. Mrs Fais was also one of the persons who helped start the Eddyville Public Library and organize the Cemetery association. She was a member of the Chapter D G P E O and was interested in the Iowa Orphans Home in Des Moines. In 1907 the family moved to Spencer, Iowa where she again took an active interest in the affairs of the community but above all she put her church first. Her husband F W Fais, preceded her in death June 27, 1924 and was a member of one of the pioneer families of Eddyville. It can truly be said that Mrs Fais life was one of service to her family, church and community and from which she will be sadly missed. She died at her home Friday evening, July 23, 1937. She is survived by two sons Garvias of Columbia, OH and Oscar of Spencer and a sister, Mrs Anna Guest of Rochelle, IL. Services were held at Spencer on Tuesday and the body was brought to Eddyville Wednesday where funeral services were held from the Congregational church, Wednesday afternoon. Rev O A McKinldy officiated, assisted by Chapter O E S No 99. Burial was made in Highland Cemetery. -Eddyville Tribune, July 29th, 1937
