Harriet M. Tisdale

Harriet Mildred Tisdale, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Tisdale, succumbed to pneumonia after an illness of six weeks, at 8:15 o'clock this morning. Death came not unexpectedly and yet was a shock to the heartbroken parents and numerous friends of the family. Six weeks ago tomorrow she became afflicted with pneumonia and gradually became critically ill until a week ago a change was noted for the better and patient showed signs of returning vitality. So hopeful were the signs of recovery that Miss Tisdale was permitted to sit up and even had gotten up from her bed for a time during the day. Conditions looked favorable until last Thursday when it was seen a change for the worse had taken place and she was compelled to again return to her bed and gradually became worse each day until it was necessary to hold consultations among the medical attendants. All that could be done to cause the recovery was attempted but to no avail.

Harriet Mildred Tisdale was born in Ottumwa, August 11, 1892, and was reared in this city. She attended the public schools and was at the time of her death a member of the class of 1911 of the Ottumwa high school. Pleasing and lovable in disposition she was popular with all the members of her class and loved by all that knew her. A devoted and loving daughter and sister, heartbroken parents and a sister mourn her. She was a member of the First Congregational church and attended and took part in the Sunday school work of that institution, where her popularity among her young friends was unbounded. The sympathy of a large circle of friends goes out to the sorrowing parents and sister at the taking away of a girl budding into young womanhood and full of promise.

The funeral will be held from the family residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. R.J. Locke assisted by Rev. P. Adelstein Johnston, a former pastor of the First Congregational church and in charge when the decedent entered the church. Interment will be in Ottumwa cemetery.
