Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” October 31, 1964:

Herbert E. Johnson, 78, of 401 S. Milner, died at his home Friday at 1:50 p.m. following a lengthy illness.

He was born Feb. 10, 1886, at Laddsdale, Iowa, the son of John and Sarah Sellers Johnson. He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church. His marriage to Esther J. Middletown took place here June 8, 1910. She survives.

He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Glen Middlesworth of Otutmwa Route 5; two sons, Robert M. Johnson in Venezuela and Arthur M. Johnson of Ottumwa; three brothers, Ernest Johnson of Monroe, James Johnson of Blakesburg, and Walter Johnson of Dahlonega; and two sisters, Mrs. William Harris of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ira Cook of Batavia.

Two sons, two brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.

The service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. C.S. Whitehouse of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harry Cross, William King, George Krafka, Albert Lumsdon, John Richards and Arthur Weems.
