WHILE WAITING TO GO TO
WORK AT MORRELL'S

Leroy Pownell, living on Cath-
erine street in Central addition, 47-
year-old employe of Morrell & Co.,
was instantly killed shortly after
7 o'clock this morning when an
Essex coupe, driven by Mrs. Anna
Hendrix, 1219 West street, crashed
over a curbing into the man as he
was sitting against a brick wall at
the north end of the Centennial
gateway at the head of Hayne
street and at the entrance of the
packing plant. His chest was
crushed and Dr. L. R. Wellstead,
county coroner, said that death
was instantaneous. No one else
was injured in the accident.
The victim of the crash was em-
ployed in the sanitary department
of the packing plant. He is sur-
vived by a daughter, Christina May
Pownell, and a son, Leroy Pownell,
Jr., both of Ottumwa his wife and
four children, living in Water-
loo. No arrangements for funeral
services have been made.
