Passing of
L.A. Lemmon

Much surprise and grief was felt when word was passed around Sunday morning that L.A. Lemmon, for forthy three years a resident of this
place, had suddenly expired at his home on North Fifth street at four o'clock that morning.

OBITUARY

Lewis Albert Lemmon was born in Lancaster county,
Pennsylvania, June 7th 1833 and died at his home in Eddyville, Iowa, May 21st, 1916, lacking seventeen days of reaching the age of eighty-three years.

He was united in marriage to Katherine Fullmer, at Seville, Ohio, July 3, 1861, to which union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. Besides the wife and four children, there are one brother and one sister, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who mourn his loss.

He united with the Methodist church before coming to Eddyville, in which church he has since held his membership.

Mr. Lemmon was active up to the time of his death. He was a man of great determination and much optimism. He always had a happy word for
everybody. He leaves, besides his family relatives, many friends who will miss him.

On July 3, 1911, Mr. and Mrs. Lemmon had the pleasure of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary or golden wedding, surrounded by their
children and grandchildren. Had he lived till next July they would have passed their fifty-fifth anniversary.

For some time Mr. Lemmon had been subject to
attacks of neuralgia, but was down town as usual last Thursday. He was feelingpoorly on Saturday and remained about the house most of the time. Saturday night he was not so well, and early the following morning the neuralgia went to his heart, so the end came suddenly with but little warning.

The funeral services were held from the home at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Amid the
many floral tributes to this aged citizen, the funeral sermon was preached by his pastor, Rev. E.W. Day. The music was by the male quartet composed of C.L. Phillips, W.S. Shipp, Earl T. Roberts and Roy Lafferty. The pall bearers were:
C.H. Stuber, R Hall, John Odem, N.A. Thayer, G.A. DeTar, and J.L. Lee, all members of Mr. Lemmon's Sunday School class. The remains were laid gently to rest in Highland cemetery.

Relatives from out of town attending the funeral
included Mr. and Mrs. M.F. Snow, Mr and Mrs. Albert Snow and Mrs. Ed Fullmer, all of Ottumwa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred McNeal and baby and Mr. and Mrs. Riley Grant of Traer; John R. Grant of Chillicothe, Mr and Mrs. A.D. Lemmon of Guthrie
Center.
