Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” February 27, 1932:

W.J. BERRY DIES AT DES MOINES

ONCE MEMBER OF OTTUMWA CITY COUNCIL; FUNERAL SUNDAY.

William Jefferson Berry, 70 years old, former resident of Ottumwa and brother of E.S. Berry; 213 South Ransom street, and John Berry, 302 Hamilton street, died at his home in Des Moines Friday.

Berry was a member of the city council here at the time Fred H. Carter was mayor, 1915-16-17, and also served a number of years as justice of the peace here. He was active in the affairs of the Willard Street Methodist Episcopal church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pluma V. Berry; three daughters, Mrs. H.E. Wolfe of Lancaster, Pa., Mrs. J.O. Leedham of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Leona Baurle of Carroll, and one son, Frank Berry, of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Dorothy and Frank Wolfe of Lancaster and Robert Jarvis of Carroll; three brothers, John and E.S. Berry of Ottumwa and S.L. Berry of Omaha and a sister, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Belknap.

The body will arrive here over the Rock Island railroad tonight from Des Moines and will be taken to the Daggett funeral chapel where short funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and at 2 o’clock from the Willard Street Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by the Rev. John F. Rex, pastor. Burial will be made in the Shaul cemetery.

The pallbearers for the Berry funeral will be: George Head, E.S. Berry, E.W. Steele, C.E. Knight, C.D. Evans and Herman Bryson.
