Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” April 17, 1942:

E.S. BERRY, FORMER RESIDENT, DIES AT 89

Ephraim S. Berry, 89, formerly of Ottumwa, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Royce W. Dingeman, Detroit, at 4:30 a.m. today.

He was the son of James and Nancy Berry, born near Belknap, Davis county, December 6, 1852. He was a resident of Wapello county for 60 years and of Ottumwa for 15 years, prior to going to Detroit in 1939.

Surviving in addition to his daughter are a son, Ira W. Berry, Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Barbara Lou, Donna Jean and Joyce Elizabeth Berry of Ottumwa; a sister, Mrs. Mary E. Thompson, Belknap.

His wife, Mary Elizabeth, preceded him in death February 28, 1939. Two daughters and a sister and five brothers also preceded him in death.

The body will be brought to Ottumwa sometime Saturday and will be taken to the Johnson funeral chapel where services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., in charge of the Rev. Charles A. Albin of the church of the Brethren. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery.
