HAROLD SMITH

Harold Smith 68; died Saturday at 10:37 a.m. at University Hospitals in Iowa City following a short illness. He lived at Golden Arrow Trailer Court at Mary Street and highway 63, which he established and owned. He was a former owner of Wapello Motel on Highway 34 East.

He was the son of Ovelie and Drucella Mowery Smith and was born in Wapello County Dec. 21, 1912
He was a lifelong resident of Ottumwa. He was a graduate of Johney O`Briens Business College and Iowa Second School in Ottumwa. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 16.

He was married May 18, 1924 in Ottumwa to Isabelle Watts; who survives. He also is survived by a son Norland of Ottumwa; a daughter Mrs. Roberta F. Browne of Moline, Illinois, two sisters Mrs. Glenda Middaugh of Skakoe ILL, and Mrs. Charles Courtney of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren and three great~grandchildren. A brother preceeded him in death.

The services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Finley Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Meeler in charge. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The casket will be taken from the Jay Funeral Home to the church at 12:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Gary Pregoa, Denny Schultz, Homer Wagner, Harley McClure, Leonard Northrup and Reid Goldizen.

A memorial fund has been established for the Finley Avenue Baptist Church where he was a trustee and moderator.
