Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” January 18, 1915:
Charles Levi Root died Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the age of 70 years. He was born in Anthens county, Ohio and served during the civil war in Co.K, 39 Ohio Volunteer infantry and at the time of his death was a member of the Tuttle post. He is survived by his wife and eight children, Mrs. Lidda Bell Rowels of Albia; Wesley Root of Kansas City, Kans.; Alma Arnold, Chicago, Ill.; Harriet Nelson of Austin, Minn., and Mrs. Melissa Gilroy, Clara Springer, Harrison Root and William Root of Ottumwa.
The funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Open Door Mission, conducted by Rev. Isaac Williams. Interment will be made in the Soldiers plot in the Shaul cemetery.
