“In Memoriam,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” January 24, 1915:
Charles Levi Root was born in Athens county, Ohio, in 1845 and died at his home on Haynes street Sunday, January 18, 1915, at 2 o’clock, at the age of seventy years. He served during the Civil war with company K, 89th Ohio volunteer infantry, and has been a resident of Ottumwa for a number of years. He is survived by his wife and eight children and eight brothers and sisters.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were J.W. Root of Galt, Mo., a brother of the deceased; one sister, Mrs. Joe Turner, and husband of Centerville; Mrs. Daffer, a niece, of Sigourney; Mrs. Rose Ellridge, a niece, of Trenton, Mo.; Fred Root, a nephew, of Trenton, Mo., and Mrs. J.H. Moore of Centerville.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Open Door Rescue mission and conducted by Rev. Isaac Williams. Interment was made in Shaul cemetery.–Contributed.
