Old Citizen Of County Dies Today
Alfred Charles Swanson, 79, a resident of Wapello County all of his life with the exception of a six-year residence in Shenandoah, died today at 8:30 AM at his home at 1021 E. 4th St. He was the son of Charles and Charlotte Swanson and was born in Wapello County, March 17, 1857. He lived in Ottumwa for the last 48 years. In 1930 he ceased operating an Ash Street grocery store which he had owned since 1905. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Munterville. Surviving are his wife Ellen; one son, Frank at home; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hoffman and Mrs. Ida Hill both of Ottumwa, and one brother, Edward of Ottumwa. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:30 PM at Johnson's funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Melvin H. Lundeen. Burial be made the Ottumwa cemetery.
