Gary Lee Elder

OTTUMWA - Gary Lee Elder, 45, of Ottumwa, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1993, at Ottumwa Regional Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eddyville Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dick Speight officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at Ottumwa. Visitation is open at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 tonight. An open memorial has been established.

Elder was born June 28, 1947, in Fairfield, the son of Junior Eugene and Lillian Townley Elder. He married Carol Johnson on Dec. 24, 1977. He had lived in rural Ottumwa the past five years, moving there from Eddyville. He had served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and had been employed by DRS Transport of Oskaloosa as a truck driver.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Tony Long of Ottumwa, Jerry Miner of Mackinaw, Ill.; two daughters, Christine Long of Ottumwa, Naomi Miner of Columbus Junction; a grandson; his mother of Barnsdall, Okla.; three brothers, Chuck of Denver, Colo., Jim of Batavia, Dave of Evansville, Ind.; and a sister, Deb Lindquist of Ottumwa. His father and a sister preceded him in death.
