Mr. Harness was born on February 12, 1924 at Ottumwa, Iowa; the son of Lee and Helen Griggs Harness. He moved to Excelsior Springs in 1970. He was married to Jean Dietz in Lancaster, Mo. He was conductor for the Chicago~Northwestern Railroad before he retired in 1985.

Survivors include his wife of Agency, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Donald Harness, 76, of Excelsior Springs, MO, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at the home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the Alexander-Johnson Funeral Home, Ottumwa, IA; burial in Shaul Cemetery, Ottumwa. The family will greet friends 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Prichard Chapel, Excelsior Springs, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
