Civil War Soldier Is Dead Today
Noah Albertson, 91, a Civil War veteran and longtime resident of Ottumwa and Southeast Iowa, died at 10:43 AM today at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Elisa Sporer, 2036, Street. Mr. Albertson was born January 6, 1845 in Holmes, Ohio and came to Libertyville where he was three years old. He lived in Ottumwa for the last 60 years. He listed as a private and Company B, Seventh Regiment, Iowa volunteer cavalry, from Wapello County in March 1863. With headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska the
“Seventh Regiment was actively engaged in heavy duties required by troops on the frontier post”, according to an old record. The record further reveals that the Seventh battled Indians many times in escorting trains, protecting immigrants, guarding lines of travel and playing watchdog on the frontier. Mr. Albertson was honorably discharged May 17, 1866 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, after the war was over. Surviving are one daughter, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. His wife, Mary Ellen, preceded him in death, December 28, 1916. Friends may call at Johnson's funeral Chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements.
