World War Vet Is Found Dead
John H. Theilen, 50, Victim Of Heart Attack; Military Services Thursday.
John Henry Theilen, 50, found dead in bed at his home, Agency route 1, Saturday about 6 PM, died of a heart attack, Coroner John Drake said today. There will be no inquest. Joseph Tienery, a neighbor found Theilen, who had been dead since about Wednesday night, Drake said. Wednesday Tienery invited Theilen a bachelor to eat the evening meal with Tienery family. Theilen refused, pleading illness. Saturday when Tienery called there was no answer. He investigated and found the dead man. Theilen was the oldest son of John and Helen Theilen and was born in Ottumwa May 15, 1885. He was a World war veteran and served as a private in Company B enlisting November 4, 1918, and being discharged December 12, 1918. Surviving are two brothers, Gus and William, and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Phillips, Mrs. Mary Pumroy, and Mrs. Anna Lane, all of Ottumwa. Military funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM at the Johnson's funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gordon Dale Cox, chaplain of the American Legion. Burial be made in the Agency cemetery.
