Miss O’Brien, 33, Dies On Sunday
Chief Phone Operator Is Third Member of Family to Die In Six Months.
Catherine M. O'Brien, 33 evening chief operator of the Ottumwa exchange of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., died at St. Joseph hospital at 9:50 PM Sunday. Her residence was at the Hotel Ottumwa. Miss O’Brien had been in ill health for some time. On March 20 she entered the hospital and underwent an operation early last week. Since September 27, 1935, when her brother, Bernard was killed in an auto crash that cost the lives of three, her father, John O'Brien has died. For 12 years Miss O’Brien had worked in the Ottumwa office of the telephone company. For four years prior to coming here she worked at the Des Moines office. She was a member of the women's Catholic order of Forrester's, Ottumwa. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Hanora O'Brien of Weller; three sisters, Eleanor a Weller, Mrs. Roy Bath of Des Moines and Irene O'Brien of Ottumwa, and one brother, Joe of Ottumwa. Her father, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at the Moroney funeral home at 8:45 AM Wednesday and at the St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9 AM. Requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Right Rev. Msgr. J. M. Walsh, V. F. Burial will be made in St. Mary's cemetery at Weller. The body will remain at the Moroney funeral home until the funeral hour. The Knights of Columbus will meet at the K. C. hall Tuesday at 7:30 PM to go to the funeral home and say the Rosary.
