OTTUMWA - Kathleen "Kate" D. Van Kirk, 89, of 1102 Hayne Street, died at 5:35 p.m., May 17, 2005, at home.

She was born April 12, 1916 in Ottumwa to Charles Ellsworth and Lillian Lottridge Haines. She married Floyd "Todd" Van Kirk April 13, 1934. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 1952.

A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, she owned and operated Kate's Place and had been in the tavern business for over 50 years.

Survivors include daughter, Wilma (Billie) Ware of Ottumwa; James Max Warnock of Ottumwa; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Maring and Wilma Miller, both of Ottumwa; and two brothers, Russ Haines of Ottumwa and Dick Haines of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Pete, George and Merle Haines; sister, Seletha McCoy; grandson, Todd Ware; and great-granddaughter, Ashlee Ware.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Loyd Osborn officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 6-7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Hospice.
