Pioneer Citizen Of County dies
David Ross Came Here 85 Years Ago; Was Born In Ohio.
One of the pioneer residents of Wapello County, David Ross, 88, of 930 W. Main St., died at 2:30 PM Thursday at the Ottumwa hospital. Mr. Ross was the son of Richard and Sarah Ross and was born in Ohio, January 19, 1847. He came to Wapello County 85 years ago and is lived here since that time, the last two years in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Kirkville Methodist Episcopal Church. Surviving are three sons, John of Kirkville, George of Eddyville and Isaac of Leighton; three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Allison of Ottumwa, Mrs. Mary Brown of Eddyville route 3, and Mrs. Anna Wright of Ottumwa; 32 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. His wife Rachel preceded him in death 18 years ago. Short funeral services will be held at Johnson's funeral Chapel at 1:30 PM Sunday and at 2 PM at the Kirkville Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. A. D. McClure. Burial be made in the Kirkville cemetery.
